When our clients found their 1910 Edwardian in Cole Valley, they saw a home full of character, charm, and potential waiting to be revealed. Like many historic San Francisco homes of the era, the house had undergone a series of unfortunate remodels over the decades and the current layout felt disjointed and inefficient . They craved a space that both honored their home’s history while accommodating modern family life. From our first design conversation, it was clear this would be a dream collaboration: a shared love for pattern-drenched walls, rich, deep colors like rust and ochre, and British-inspired textiles.
We began by reimagining the home’s flow while preserving its architectural soul, collaborating closely with Bay Area home builder Perez Construction. The main floor now features a sun-soaked kitchen anchored by an ocean blue island flanked by sage cabinetry. An ample walk-in pantry was created by downsizing the formerly oversized powder bath. Upstairs, we reconfigured the primary bath, repositioning its entrance to improve the flow from the bedroom. Every room now showcases a vivid palette, botanical wallpapers, and custom millwork, all woven together to create cohesion and warmth throughout.
Nature motifs appear in nearly every corner of the home. In the dining room, a delicately painted mural and floral chandelier echo the neighboring garden, while soft green moldings ground the room in serenity. The primary suite unfolds in earth tones and meaningful details, including a baobab tree wallpaper that nods to the couple’s wedding vows. Even the guest room, complete with a hidden Murphy bed and boutique hotel-inspired ensuite, effortlessly transitions from restful retreat to refined workspace.
